I was digging on this Johnny Cash live in a prison concert - totally the orginal hardcore - so I put a backbeat behind Cocaine Blues cuz I love the energy of this track so much.

I love Nina Simone! I could do a whole album of her music. Here is a fresh and lovely HeadHat remix of Nina Simone's 'Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair'.

HatHead Strikes Back

this entire track is all fresh baked goods and was performed and mixed from scratch at the same time. it is quite a new experience to mix while simultaneously recording your own performance. this track is my first pass through - starting with a free flute part and spending some time working the beat + some cool appregiator lines too -

Rumba Lullaby

recently i heard some rumba music from the Congo playing in a serbian taxi driver's tape deck. this guy knew his music and the african rumba has stuck itself inside my head for a while now. no surprise then that watching the sun go down and picking away at my guitar, this little african tune made it's way out of my head.

trying to stay true to the real african feel, this sketch is only 4 tracks - guitar, percussion loop and 2 vocalizations. i couldn't help but dust in a few fx though i was really just trying to capture the moment of making music out on my deck watching the sun go down

Late one night, or rather very early on morning, I improvides this reflective, more classical piece.

Dance Of The Wolf

For Dance Of The Wolf, I took an accapella performance of some woman singing a haunting gaelic song and put the music behind it. I wrote the following poem to imaging what she might be singing about.

Across times unknown
Beyond skies unpassed
In the darkest night
I sing to you
The Dance of the Wolf

Deeper than the endless ocean black
Taller than the tallest snowy mount
To the moon's lonesome eye
I cry and I cry
Just like a babe

Past the depths of my heart
Across the edges of my soul
In the darkest night
I sing to you
The Dance of the Wolf

In the twilight of the dawn
When the sun is weighing near
To the moon's lonesome eye
I cry and I cry
Just like a babe

Roll & Go is a groovy beat underneath some Jamacian fisherfolk chanting from the 1950's.

One For Joe

One For Joe is a jam that Omar Martinez and I recorded after seeing the mighty Joe Zawinul. Omar's playing on the 5-string bass solo is simply amazing.
